Upperbody Make Over

Be your own massage therapist!

We tend to hold our tension and stress in our upper back and shoulders. Are you sitting to much behind your computer or using your phone? This puts an enormous amount of strain and stress on your neck and upper back. The result is a forward head posture, headaches, restricted shoulder movement and even lower back pain.

Nina Watson is an International ERYT500 Yoga, Yoga Medicine Therapeutic Specialist, Pilates, Yoga Tune Up®,Yin, Meditation and Mindfulness teacher from the Netherlands, with more than two decades of teaching experience. She holds a degree in education, special needs and has a gift for teaching.

In this workshop Nina teaches us different techniques with the massage balls so we can look after our aches and pains in the upper back and shoulders and learn how to be our own massage therapists!

You do not need to have any Pilates or Yoga experience to join this workshop.

We finish with mindful mingle and a smoothie, juice or cacao of your choice (included in the fee) in the cafe of Damai Studio & Cafe after the session ⭐️😋

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

Did you know that the stress and tension we hold in our body may hold us back in any physical activity we’re engaged in? In this two hour workshop we will learn principles and techniques to:

  • Release Tension

  • Improve Posture and Performance

  • Mobilize and Rejuvenate stiff joints

  • Relieve Aches and Pains

  • Enhance Breathing Function

  • Improve Body Awareness

MASSAGE BALL TECHNIQUES

The Massage Balls offer an easy and powerful practice of Myofascial release to address the “Issues In Your Tissues”.

If there is a restriction or adhesion in a certain part of your Myofascia, the muscle cannot function fully, and neither can the joint(s) to which the muscle attaches.

Self Massage Ball work makes correction and connections in tissues that daily exercise, stretching, and yoga often bypass. The Balls provides a micro-stretch into areas of myofascia that have become adhered because of damage, lack of use, over- use, poor nutrition, scar tissue, emotional holding, or other reasons.

Rolling tears apart the “sticky” or adhered parts of the tissues, thereby separating the individual fibers within the muscle so that each fiber can literally pull its own weight instead of its neighbors. It increases the hydration of tissues. Your muscles are then able to fully contract and release as your movement dictates.

Open up your Side Body!
Nov

Open up your Side Body!

Open up your side body!

In this workshop we will tune up your side body, by freeing up your fascia and muscles of the lateral line.

Most of the body’s natural movement tend to be forward, the side body often gets overlooked in our daily lives. How often do we bend to the right or left? This can result in the tissues of the side body being tight and/or weak from top to bottom. Also…. poor postural habits are not helpful, slouching can create so much tension in the upper body that lifting the arms fully overhead becomes impossible and stretching from side to side causes discomfort.

Standing, sitting and repetitive forward movements have a huge impact on the lower body. The gluteus medius on the side of the hip, for example, is prone to becoming tight from all of our natural forward movement, which can interfere with our ability to stabilize the pelvis.

In this workshop we will combine Myofascial Release and Yoga to release the fascia of the lateral line of the body. We will tackle these common areas of tension—one at a time—then retrain the muscles to lengthen, strengthen and fire more efficiently. Since the tissues are all connected via the fascial system, working on any part of this lateral line of muscles will affect the rest of the chain. Not only can this reduce pain and increase range of motion, but with a consistent practice we can teach our muscles how to move more efficiently.

Post-myofascial release, we will test our range of motion to see the instant results of the work.

You will leave this workshop feeling taller, longer and lighter and in addition you also will experience great benefits for your respiration, digestion and lymphatic system!

Myo Yin

This workshop combines the use of myofascial release techniques and Yin Yoga asanas. Myofascial Release is a safe hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure onto them Myo Fascial connective tissue restrictions in order to reduce or eliminate pain and restore motion.

Today, MFR is being incorporated into various movement therapies, such as yoga. In fact, Yin Yoga is in essence a form of MFR as it works to stress and release the fascial tissue through our postures.

When we incorporate the tools of MFR with Yin Yoga we can open the body more fully to increase the circulation of the blood & chi energy to the tissues of the body aiding in the relief of discomforts that are associated with a multitude of physical disorders.

This workshop will melt your stress away and let you reconnect to your body in a gentle and more compassionate way.

Align Your Spine for a Healthy Back

Align Your Spine for a Healthy Back

Align your spine for a healthy back, both on and off the mat!

A stiff or misaligned spine can have effects on areas beyond the spine, potentially causing pain and suffering.
A healthy spine plays a crucial role in our body's ability to move efficiently as well as to protect and house our spinal cord.
Dysfunctions or injuries to our spine has implications on both our mobility and our nervous system!
It is what we do all day that has the potential to be the most troublesome, our posture!

In this workshop we will look at the spine, the concept of tensegrity, some common injuries and dysfunction and general postural changes and how to "fix them".

Tune Up Your Hips

HAPPY HEALTHY HIPS

In this workshop we will explore our hips and look for:
-What is tight and what is weak.
-How can we create more integrity around the hip joint.
-How can we shift our focus from hip openness to hip stability
-Some common causes of hip pain and how to treat them
Last but not least:
-How can we practice yoga in such a way that serves our hips rather than causing harm

Many students come to yoga looking for more flexibility in the hips, or assume that they can stretch their way through perceived problems, but sometimes too much of a good thing can work against us.
Once we become more flexible, we tend to look for the release that we get from the deeper variations of hip openers in poses such as single legged pigeon but as we continue to push further there is eventually a risk of the joint becoming strained.
The support of the deeper structures of the joint become less effective and which in turn can lead to hypermobility. So instead of pushing deeper into flexible areas, notice spots where you are tight or weak and look instead for poses to challenge the strength of the hips, shifting your focus from hip opening to hip stability.
It is essential to create a healthy balance between flexibility and strength in the joint to maintain the integrity of the deeper structures of the joint!

We will end the workshop with myofascial release for the hips using the Massage Balls.

“Help your shoulders function optimally on and off the mat!”

In this Shoulder Masterclass we will explore the structure and function of the shoulder joint in theory and in practice!

Our practice will focus on our shoulders, one of the most mobile and vulnerable joints in our body. Because the shoulder joint has little coverage, it is less stable and the less stable a joint is, the more vulnerable and exposed it is to the risk of injury.

Together we will explore the anatomy, the natural movement of the shoulder joint as well as address any general issues that we might experience around the shoulder joint as well as the neck. Learning how to work with this area in a balanced way, will make a tremendous difference on how you look, feel and perform!

You will:
- Get to know the muscles of the Rotator Cuff
- Learn about some common injuries to the shoulder
- Look at some common postural patterns
- Release tight areas
- Learn how to engage weak areas through mindful movements
- Look at some shoulder biomechanics in pilates and yoga poses.
- Learn how to stabilise the head of the armbone ( the Humerus) and the shoulder blade ( the Scapula)

For the students that have joined the previous masterclass it will be a great opportunity to deepen your knowledge and to integrate it more into your practice.

Shoulder Love Masterclass

Masterclass Pilates “Shoulder Love”

“Shoulder Love”
Zaterdag 16 december, van 9:30 – 11:00, een Masterclass van Nina Watson!
The shoulder is the body’s most mobile joint. It is a ball and socket joint. Unfortunately the more mobile a joint, the less stable and the less stable the more risk of an injury. Imagine a golfball on a tee! Because of its mobility It is easily prone to injury and dysfunction.

In order to make this area function efficiently, we first have to establish stability of the glenohumeral joint ( shoulder) by strengthening the rotator cuff, the second is to establish full range of motion in the scapula as its slides over the ribs and the third is to improve the stability of the scapula ( shoulder blade)

So learning to work with this area in a balanced way, will make a tremendous difference on how you look, feel and perform!

In this Pilates masterclass we will work on Scapular Stability and Mobility, Release tight areas and Strengthen the weak ones to help your shoulders function optimally, to avoid injury and to work more safely on and off the mat!
Kosten : 18, 50 euro.

In this 2-hour workshop you will learn easy techniques to roll out tension from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head using Yoga Tune Up® therapy balls.

You will also:
- Release pain and stress
- Increase range of motion
- Free up the breath
- Foster deep relaxation

The Yoga Tune Up Therapy Balls offer an easy and powerful practice of myofascial release to address the “Issues In Your Tissues”

If there is a restriction or adhesion in a certain part of your myofascia, the muscle cannot function fully, and neither can the joint(s) to which the muscle attaches.
Self Massage Ball work makes correction and connections in tissues that daily exercise, stretching, and yoga often bypass. The Balls provides a micro-stretch into areas of myofascia that have become adhered because of damage, lack of use, lack of use, poor nutrition, scar tissue, emotional holding, or other reasons”
